Before downloading movies can be found on your PSP to watch, you must understand the structure of folders, file types and naming conventions. The PSP plays no standard formats such as WMV or QuickTime MOV. It uses the MPEG-4, and its own file naming convention, things get a bit 'more complicated. If you understand these basics, you are on the road for each film, music, games and more substances that can be downloaded as on your PSP.
When the PSP was launched for the first time would only accept aFormat of the film - the standard MPEG-4 SP. With updates later, but the format above AVC (also known as H.264 or MPEG-4 Part 10), is also playable on PSP.
MPEG-4 AAC.
This is the standard format used originally for the PSP. Is true, as MPEG-4 Simple Profile or known as MPEG-4 Part 2 and MPEG-4 AAC.
MPEG-4 AAC-films should be stored in the folder and MP_ROOT100MNV01 be named M4V a random number with a prefix, as they are;M4V00001, M4V00002, etc. with a M4V00003. Mp4.
When you view the list of movies on your PSP, this type of file will be listed with a day MPG4.
MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding).
This format will be installed on the PSP playable after upgrade firmware 2.0 or higher. AVC files are also known as MPEG-4 Part 10 or more often H.264.
AVC files are plain-vanilla highest quality MPEG-4 files, and in fact a variant of the format is identicalused for the superb UMD Video disc movies.
MPEG-4 AVC movies should be put in the MP_ROOT100ANV01 folder and must be named with a MAQ prefix followed by a 5 digit random number like this, MAQ00001,MAQ00002,MAQ00003 etc., with an .MP4 extension.
When browsing your list of movies on your PSP, this type of file will be listed with an AVC tag.
Important Notes
Using lower case will mean your PSP will not recognise the file at all.Always remember which folder to put the type of film and what naming convention to use, so that all files with CAPS need only one name.
